While I’ve been whining about my rash Mr. Comfortable has been working on the Duck Cabin. He hasn’t been able to spend as much time on it as he’d have liked. There were a few days of rain, our granddaughter’s birthday party, and my need to be babied 24/7 because I itch. Yet construction continues!
Construction continues in spite of me.
I was surprised when Mr. C said he’d emailed me new pictures of the work he’s been doing. For the last several days I thought all he had time for was making me soup, endless cups of tea, and saying “Poor you.” But he informed me that when the antihistamines kick in and I fall asleep he’s been going out to work on the Duck Cabin. What a guy!
The days he could work were really hot and humid. He moved his “workshop” into the shade and painted the roof and both doors. Then he attached the hinges on the doors. He also made the frame for the roof.
Mr. C also treated the concrete floor with a curing compound and sealer. While that was drying he began painting the Duck Cabin frame.
Construction continues on the play area as well.
The most difficult, time-consuming job as construction continues has breaking ground for the pool. For this year we’re going to use our grand kids’ little plastic pool for the pond. We will probably put in a deeper, bigger pond next year when our older son, Paul comes to visit. He’s an electrician and is going to wire both the Duck Cabin and the pond so we can have lights and run a filter.
At first the job looked like it would be just a lot of digging. Mr. C is going to have the top edge of the pool level with the ground. If Freckles and Penguin have trouble getting out we’ll build a little ramp for them.
I was worried about Freckles and the pool. Penguin tried to mate her the other day and darned near drowned her in their water bowl. But I should have known our girl would stand up for herself. She got her head out of the water, turned around and bit him right on the bill, then chased him around the tub hollering all the while!
But it wasn’t too long before Mr. C discovered there are some major grape-vine roots growing where the pool has to be set in.
Eileen told me about a product that will kill any plant/root and is still safe to use around kids and pets. I’m going to urge Mr. Comfortable to get that instead of trying to hack through those roots and the poison ivy that is growing in the play area. Eileen knows everything!
I’m sad I can’t be out there helping but I know this rash will be gone very soon. I need to get back to work! Construction continues but not without me for much longer!
