It’s often easy to forget how much we accomplish during a week. Sunday can leave us feeling that we haven’t done the things we planned for the last 7 days. So I wanted to do a week in review to track if I’ve been working enough on the things I need to do.
A week in review wasn’t my idea…
A very bright young lady named Maggie who has a wonderful blog Dreaming of Guatemala has posted reviews of her week. I thought it was a really great idea. Imagine keeping track of the things you do all week! By Sunday you either feel great or know you need to get moving.
I decided that the first week in July was as good a time as any to give myself a weekly checkup on my Goals and Challenges.
July 1st I forgot to really track the day but I know I made BLT Chicken Cordon Bleu for dinner. Mr. C really liked it. And Pete and Andi were intrigued.
July 2nd Because the kids really liked the idea I made the BLT Chicken Cordon Bleu for Pete & Andi, Estrella and Zayden. I ended up cooking it at their house and that gave me another thing for my list of things to do. I think the thermostat on my oven is off. I’ll have to try to find out where I can get a replacement and how to install it.
July 3rd This was a really bad pain day so I just did some light housework. I really should have started planting the petunias and begonias but I wasn’t really moving much at all. This made me wonder if my week in review was going to end with the second day!
July 4th I decided that giving in to the pain wasn’t going to make me happy. It hurts more when I do things but keeping busy feels wonderful. It’s always better when I know I’ve accomplished things. I spent the day planting petunias and begonias with Mr. Comfortable. In the evening Pete picked us up and Andi followed in their car with the kids to the park. The fireworks show in the village is always amazing and it was great to spend time with family.
July 5th I thought I’d be stuck in bed for most of the day but I really wanted to trim the Ninebark and do some work in the vegetable garden. I was quite happy at the end of the day when I’d managed to do both!
July 6th Discovering gardening in the heat can cause a near death experience wasn’t the highlight of the week but it was educational!
July 7th I spent most of the day deciding how to make Hasselback Mexi-Ranch Chicken. Although the Hasselback part of the dish didn’t really show in the finished product it was really tasty. And while thinking about that dish I remembered I’m working on a dish for Margaret of Soul Food 101. Well, it’s really for her husband.
A week in review needs a day like Saturday!
July 8th This was the busiest day of the week. First we had an appointment at the food bank. It’s still a bit frustrating that they don’t have broths or other basic cooking ingredients but this time they had fresh spinach and a couple of other great things. I went wild and used a good portion of my allotted food weight to get a watermelon! I’ve been craving it since the weather got warm and when I saw them I threw caution and good sense to the wind!
When we got home and put everything away I decided I really need to do some weeding on the hill. The two flower beds along the house look spectacular but grass is, once again, taking over the hill. I spent nearly two hours on the hill then came in a rested for a while. When I could stand up again I made my Custard Bathed Berries. Oh, how I love this dessert! With that and the watermelon it felt like I’d won a lottery!
Then it was back to the hill for more weeding. I only lasted an hour on the second round but I know I’m going to win the war one short battle at a time! Saturday gave me a big boost since my week in review was looking better and better!
July 9th Sunday I really needed to catch up on housework! I also planned the meals for the week. Then it was back to the hill to weed again. I also did a little work in the vegetable garden. It would probably be smarter to give up on it but I just can’t pull out the plants that are trying so hard to do well. Even if the garden is pretty much a loss this year they deserve a chance. Finally on Sunday evening I worked on what I learned about sewing from Eileen. I spent some time repairing tears in Mr. C’s jeans. Until I can buy fabric my plan of making napkins, etc. has to wait but simple repairs are good practice!
I’ve also spent a few days searching for my recipe for cherry salsa. It took me a long time to get to a finished salsa everyone loved and the darned recipe is just gone! I can’t rest until I find it. That’s the trouble with having so many binders with recipes! Eventually I’ll find it. I have to believe that because I don’t want to start all over!
So that’s my week in review. What kept you busy last week?
