Just three weeks ago we celebrated Pete and Andi’s wedding and this past weekend our daughter, Jami married John! There wasn’t too much for me to do to get ready for this wedding. John’s mother wanted a catered brunch. The kids did get to have a barbecue in the evening, though. So it was another weekend wedding for the family and I’m worn out!
Another wedding weekend nearly did me in!
Even though it’s taken me four days in bed to mostly recover from the festivities it was worth it! Jami is happier than she’s ever been and the wedding was beautiful!
The weekend started with a rehearsal dinner on Friday. Jami and John took the entire hullabaloo gracefully. Originally Jami, like her little brother Pete, wanted a courthouse wedding. But John’s mom wanted both her family and John’s father’s family there. That turned the wedding into something quite a bit more formal than the kids had planned.
Andi enjoyed meeting John’s niece Caroline
Mike is John’s brother and the Best Man
Our lovely Jami was radiant at the rehearsal dinner
John’s parents’ sisters and brothers flew in from all over the country. They brought their kids and grand kids with them! It was a crowd at the rehearsal dinner which was held at a restaurant located in between our home and John’s parents’ place. It was fun getting to meet John’s relatives and the food was amazing! I’ll be working on replicating some of the recipes in the weeks to come!
The wedding was on Saturday and it the celebration lasted from morning until night! John’s parents live on a beautiful lake and they hosted the wedding. Jami was brought to her wedding ceremony by boat! She looked like a princess floating up to marry her handsome prince! I love John but when I saw the way he looked as he watched Jami walking toward him I fell in love with him even more!
Their friend, Gayle was the officiant. Being the conservative country family we are I was taken aback by Gayle’s garb! I’m not quite sure what religion he practices but the outfit was worth the price of admission! He looked quite ceremonial.
At one point our little girl became a bit choked up but Gayle said something funny and everyone was laughing. Jami was able to get through the rest of the ceremony without tears. And it was a lovely ceremony!
Once John and Jami had been pronounced man and wife we all blew bubbles. The adults had as much fun as the kids with the bubbles.
Following the ceremony and receiving line there was a delicious brunch. When Mr. Comfortable brought me a plate I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish it all but I darned near did! The caterers did a fantastic job!
Once the brunch was over it was time to take advantage of the lake. Nearly everyone, including the bride and groom and their wedding party went swimming! I even waded around several times. Then Mr. C and I spent the rest of the afternoon sitting in the shade watching our grand kids, Devan (Jami and John’s son) and Estrella (Andi & Pete’s daughter) play in the lake. They swam, kayaked, and had to be dragged out after hours in the water.
The family gathered for a barbecue dinner around 6 o’clock. By then the swimmers were all famished even though snacks were constantly available all day. For dinner we had shredded beef tacos, chicken wings, chili dogs, my favorite; corn on the cob, and so much more.
It was a lovely setting worthy of our precious daughter and her new husband. And a wedding reception where you swim? Priceless!
